Hello All….Updating the blog after a long time. And now i promised myself that I would pick time to do this consistently. So keep looking in here for more.
Recently, I went through this article that had the headline ‘Good News! India’s growing less corrupted’. Optimistic beings as we are, I went through it. And you can appreciate my disappointment when I saw the statistics. There is this survey called the Global Corruption Index, that keeps a count on the level of corruption in each country. They have a scale from 1 to 10 and the higher the scale, the lower is the corruption. And you know why this time it is good news for India? India made a ‘big’ leap from 2.7 to 2.8. In contrast to the index, India drooped from 71st position to 83rd position. What can anyone expect out of mere indexes. I reminded myself with a sigh that the indexes are just a reflection of what we do…Or am I being too blind to the justice growing around me?
I know, once you saw India’s rating you would only want to know one other country’s index..PAKISTAN!! (so human we are!!). I am coming to that. Pakistan stands 92nd with 2.5. Hey wait! Did you just feel relieved?..wait till I tell you the index of USA. It is 7.5 (18th).Phew!
Apart from the sarcasm, let us stop and think what can we do to increase the index.. (always figures convey the gist more than anything…so lets talk in figures too). And this is when I thought about it too! And guess what, I could not think of anything other than paying taxes correctly. I am not a government official, so no one would offer me a bribe, I am not a doctor, so I cannot ‘not’ charge the patient more than his blood. I am not a police official, I cannot ‘not’ leave a rapist with a phone call. With a blow of remorse, I realized that I cannot do anything to help my country crawl a bit high on the index. [:o]
One thing I can do. Vote for the right person. Ya, Okay..but that is only once in 5 years. What is Next? Do you think the same?
lol at your thought of not being able to help our country crawl a bit high on the index.
But on a serious note, i dont know what to say.
every time we see something like the ads by jagore, we feel that by being honest and voting to the right person we can make a difference and yet when we are caught at the traffic signal for jumping the signal, we offer to pay bribe rather than pay the penalty.
i know that neither you, nor i have a bike and came across above situation but many among us will do the same..
we are a big bunch of hypocrites and yes optimists too..
Nice blog. Now I am confused on whether to vote
. i have one question… is corruption always monetary done by so called govt employees, doc’s or a police? my thoughts are that it is a disease that is in built in our society…. even luring a kid for a candy if he does his homework comes under this…. i think we start very young…
can one person solve it??? no way… i think there needs to be attitude change in the society which comes with education.. wat u did in ur blog is part of it… u made a lot of people who read ur blog (i hope there are a lot
) think abt it…. good job
Its all about getting things done!!! I still couldn’t imagine uncorrupted India.. How good it would be!!!!
you r right sravz… India is today in desperate need for an uncorrupted society..( oops! how will that be?????) the bribe of 500 we give for absence of license and all is nothing before huge bribes circulating around corrupt leaders… every small decrease in the corruption is in d hands of d society which is more or less in d hands of the leaders….
